Dollar Shave Club buys body care brand Truly Beauty

In a strategic expansion, Dollar Shave Club has announced its acquisition of the body care brand Truly Beauty. Details of the financial arrangement have not been disclosed. Despite the acquisition, both companies will maintain their unique brand identities, catering to their distinct customer demographics.

Enhancing the Product Portfolio

With this acquisition, Dollar Shave Club is making its foray into the women’s grooming sector while also introducing a mass-premium price range to its offerings. Truly Beauty, known for its extensive lineup of body care products such as scrubs, oils, and razors, represents a significant addition to Dollar Shave Club’s portfolio.

Smooth Integration Process

The integration process, which will start immediately, involves combining supply chain functionalities and inventory platforms. Both brands will also merge their marketing, strategic, and creative teams to enhance operational efficiency.

A Shared Vision for Growth

Maxx Appelman, founder, and Freddy Wolfe, CEO of Truly Beauty, expressed their enthusiasm in a joint statement, highlighting the brand’s growth since its inception in 2015 and its appeal to the Gen Z demographic. They view the partnership with Dollar Shave Club as a natural progression into a new growth phase.

Continuing Evolution Post-Unilever

This acquisition marks a significant development for Dollar Shave Club, coming about three years after Unilever sold a substantial portion of its stake to Nexus Capital Management, while retaining 35% minority ownership. Unilever originally purchased the shaving subscription service in 2016.

Leveraging Advanced Technology

Commenting on the acquisition, Larry Bodner, CEO of Dollar Shave Club, emphasised their ambition to develop a rapid innovation model by leveraging Truly’s product development capabilities alongside their own AI-driven inventory planning and logistics.
