Final Fantasy 7 Revelation arrives in 2027 with demo release

The long-awaited release date for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has been officially confirmed for 8th April, 2027. Announced by director Naoki Hamaguchi during Sony’s State of Play livestream, this concluding chapter of the trilogy will be available globally across all major gaming platforms, including PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC—marking a first for the series with a simultaneous worldwide launch.

Conclusion to a Beloved Saga

The game wraps up the narrative that started with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, recounting the adventurous tale of the original FF7. As the story culminates, players will see Cloud and his team confront Sephiroth in an attempt to prevent a catastrophic meteor from annihilating the planet. Complicating matters, the planetary defence systems known as Weapons have been activated, presenting a dual threat that could endanger humanity itself in their mission to protect the world.

Exploration and Challenges Await

The unveiling included new gameplay footage, featuring the use of Cid’s airship, the Highwind, for exploration. This installment promises to be the largest in the trilogy, retaining all previous locations while introducing fresh, original areas. This scale and progression make it a fitting conclusion, often likened to the ‘final disc’ of the original Final Fantasy 7. Insights from Naoki Hamaguchi highlight his humble approach and ambitious vision for the project’s finale.

Demo Insights and Future Releases

Additionally, Square Enix has introduced a demo for another title, Final Fantasy Resonance, now available for download. At approximately 5GB, it provides an immersive experience in the first chapter, lasting three to five hours. Remarkably, progress in the demo can be transferred to the full game upon its release next month. While the demo was highlighted in a PS5 stream, it’s accessible on multiple platforms, including Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox.
