A new Lego set is celebrating the iconic PlayStation’s 30th anniversary with a faithful 1:1 scale model of the original console. Revealed during Sony’s State of Play, enthusiasts can start placing orders next month.
Details of the Lego PlayStation Set
The set features a detailed build comprising 1,911 pieces. True to the classic console’s design, it includes functional components such as an openable disc tray and pressable buttons. Additionally, it boasts small dioramas inspired by beloved games “Ape Escape” and “Gran Turismo.” A Lego version of the PlayStation 1 controller is also part of the package, adding an extra layer to this collector’s item.
These miniature dioramas can be detached and displayed independently for those who prefer individual showcases. This innovative feature is a nod to the nostalgia associated with these titles, which have not been prominently featured recently. According to the PlayStation Blog, the set also contains other hidden secrets for enthusiasts to uncover.
Availability and Pricing
Launching on 1st October, the Lego PlayStation set can be purchased from PlayStation Direct in the U.S., U.K., and various European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Early access through Lego Insiders and general availability at Lego stores will begin on 4th October. The set is priced at £139.99 in the UK, €159.99 across Europe, and $179.99 in the U.S., inclusive of tax.
Collaborations and Collectibles
The partnership between Sony and Lego is not a first in the gaming world. Nintendo has similarly collaborated with Lego, with recent leaks hinting at an upcoming Donkey Kong set. Microsoft, while opting for a different style, has teamed up with Mattel Brick Shop to create a model of the original Xbox. Additionally, during the State of Play, Sony unveiled limited edition Grand Theft Auto 6 PS5 controllers, set for release later this month.
