Victoria’s Secret is successfully tapping into trends of nostalgia and entertainment as part of its strategy to attract shoppers and boost sales. This move includes modifications and expansions of its fragrance lines, with updated versions of iconic scents. A notable example is the relaunch of Pink’s square bottle scents, under the “Bringback” label, which quickly sold out online. This strategy aims to rekindle the longstanding emotional connections customers have with the brand’s fragrance offerings, according to CEO Hillary Super.
Embracing Entertainment Elements
While Victoria’s Secret has not adopted a complete “fashiontainment” platform like Gap Inc., it is beginning to incorporate elements of entertainment to strengthen its brand. A new YouTube documentary series titled “Angels Among Us” will premiere this month, showcasing the search for new models. These initiatives aim to cement Victoria’s Secret’s reputation as a global entertainment brand.
According to Super, this is just the start of an exciting period for the company, with more innovative products, partnerships, and emotionally engaging campaigns planned for the coming months, particularly during the fall and holiday seasons.
Sales Growth Reinforcement
The focus on product innovation, especially in the core bra segment, has significantly contributed to the company’s recent financial success. During the second quarter, Victoria’s Secret saw a 10% increase in net sales, reaching $1.6 billion. Comparable store sales grew by 9%, with in-store sales up by 7%. In particular, growth in the bra category, mainly through key franchises and new offerings, has driven these results.
Financial Performance and Future Outlook
Neil Saunders, Managing Director at GlobalData, highlighted that the broad-based growth at Victoria’s Secret signifies a genuine uptick in market presence and customer engagement, marking a reversal of a previous decline in their customer base. The improved performance is reflected in the profit margins, which saw a substantial increase. The gross margin rose by 320 basis points to reach 38.8%, primarily due to fewer promotions and more regular-priced sales. The company’s Q2 net income nearly tripled to over $85 million.
Victoria’s Secret managed to recoup over 95% of the more than $140 million in tariffs previously paid under IEEPA. These recoveries were not factored into their adjusted results. As a result of these improvements, the company has raised its revenue forecast for the year. The expected net sales are now projected to fall between $7.1 billion and $7.18 billion, a revision from the previous estimate of $7.03 billion to $7.13 billion, compared to last year’s $6.6 billion. The adjusted operating income forecast has also been updated to a maximum of $590 million, up from the previous range of $550 million to $580 million, surpassing last year’s $403 million.
