Discover Global Soundscapes with Earth Garden
Earth Garden offers an immersive audio journey around the globe, utilising environmental sounds sourced from Freesound. This digital platform provides a unique experience where users can explore a variety of natural and urban soundscapes from different corners of the world.
Inspired by Radio Garden, which allows users to explore global radio stations, Earth Garden differs by focusing on environmental sounds. The platform features a diverse array of recordings, from the tranquillity of waves lapping on remote Atlantic islands to the vibrant night sounds of Tanzanian crickets, and the rhythmic patter of rain on Manhattan streets. Many users might find the abundance of rainfall recordings particularly prominent.
The audio clips on Earth Garden are curated from Freesound, a free-to-use sound database. However, this means the quality of the recordings can vary, with some inconsistencies in volume. Additionally, there is a noticeable concentration of recordings from the United States and Europe, especially the UK. Nonetheless, users have the option to set the globe to autopilot, rotating it to experience new sounds as the focus shifts to different points on the map. To enhance the experience, there is also an option to add ambient drones as background sounds.
