Google removes EU travel features to prevent more fines

Amid increasing regulatory pressure from European antitrust authorities, Google is revising its search features across Europe to avoid potential fines. The company’s altered approach will result in significant modifications to how search results are displayed for travelers looking for flights, hotels, or restaurants.

Changes to Search Results

Google’s updated search results in Europe will now present two separate sections for these queries. One of these sections will focus on third-party aggregators and booking platforms, while the other will feature direct suppliers. This change means that users in the European Union will lose the ability to filter by travel dates, see live pricing, or use detailed tags such as “budget” or “boutique” directly in these search results. These adjustments will also be incorporated into Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode where applicable.

Removal of Vacation Rentals

Additionally, Google has removed the vacation rentals search unit from its European search results. However, vacation rental data will still feed into results visible on platforms such as Google Maps and google.com/hotels, although not as part of a dedicated search unit.
