A bankruptcy court judge has verified Francesca’s Chapter 11 wind-down plan, as confirmed on Tuesday. The plan includes selling the retailer’s intellectual property to Stand Out For Good, the parent company of Altar’d State, for approximately $7 million.
Details of the Liquidation Plan
Francesca’s liquidation plan, now amended, has seen the retailer successfully settle several disagreements with landlords and creditors over store closure sales. The confirmed plan entails the sale of Francesca’s IP, including its social media platforms, customer databases, trademarks, and branding assets, to Stand Out For Good.
Absence of Competing Bids
During the marketing phase, 28 entities reviewed Francesca’s financial data and holdings. Despite this interest, no other bids were accepted beyond Stand Out For Good’s proposal, according to the joint plan of liquidation.
Bankruptcy History and Causes
Francesca’s initiated its current Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in February in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. This marks the second bankruptcy filing for the women’s fashion retailer in less than six years. The filing confirmed plans to close stores through a phased liquidation approach.
The company attributed its bankruptcy to limited liquidity after previous restructuring, changes in the competitive environment due to online retail, poor performance of non-core brand investments, and a significant data breach in 2023.
