Kia Introduces the Long-Awaited PV7 Electric Van
Kia has unveiled its latest foray into the electric vehicle market with the presentation of the PV7 van at the IAA Transportation event in Germany. The PV7, an extension of Kia’s uniquely flexible Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) line-up, is the company’s second fully electric van, following the PV5 “people mover,” which debuted in 2025.
Variants and Technical Specifications
The new PV7 is approximately two feet longer than the PV5 and offers two distinct variants: one configured for passengers and the other for cargo. Its foundation lies on Kia’s dedicated E-GMP.S platform, renowned for its flat-floor design, facilitating smooth loading and unloading operations. Equipped with a choice of 71.5kWh or 96.2kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery packs, the PV7 boasts an impressive range. The Cargo Long-Range version is estimated to cover a distance of 460 kilometres (285.8 miles) according to the WLTP cycle, which is notably more optimistic than the EPA’s figures.
The architecture supports 800-volt charging, allowing for a rapid 10—80 percent charge in under 25 minutes via a 350kW DC fast charger. Additionally, the van is fitted with vehicle-to-load outlets, accommodating the use of external tools and equipment. The vehicle’s infotainment system is powered by Kia’s Android Automotive-based Pleos Connect OS, which includes the Gleo AI natural-language voice command feature.
Design and Features
Visually, the PV7 makes a statement with its two-tone façade, featuring a dark region around the windshield for a futuristic visor-like effect. Its design, characterized by an upright stance and tall, flat roofline, suggests a spacious interior that is adaptable for various uses. The low front bumper coupled with plastic cladding around the base, provides a rugged and practical look. Both passenger and cargo variants showcase unique squarish multi-spoke wheels, imparting a stylish yet understated appearance.
Future Prospects and Market Expansion
While Kia has not confirmed plans to introduce the PV7 in the US, the model has been spotted undergoing tests in the region. The official launch is set for the second half of 2027 in Europe and Korea, with potential expansion to additional markets and the possibility of derivative and conversion models being discussed.
Initially revealed at CES 2024, the PBV concept was designed for ultimate versatility, allowing body types to be swapped over a constant driver cab. This flexibility permits transformation into a minivan, full-size van, or even a small truck, tailored to specific needs.
