Monster Hunter Wilds removes character edit fees

Players of Monster Hunter Wilds will soon bid farewell to a controversial aspect of its gameplay. Capcom has announced the removal of the game’s contentious Edit Vouchers, which previously allowed players to alter the appearances of their hunters and Palicos, albeit for a price. From 3 December onwards, these vouchers will be withdrawn from all digital platforms.

In a move likely to appease fans, Capcom will grant players 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers at no cost, serving as a bridge until further updates. With the upcoming launch of the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion next year, players will gain unlimited, free access to appearance editing for both hunters and Palicos, completely eliminating the need for any vouchers.

For those who have previously spent money on these vouchers, Capcom will not be offering monetary refunds. Instead, such players will receive an in-game pendant set, titled the Special Thank-You Pendant Set, which includes the Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar pendants. This gesture of appreciation can be redeemed from 3 December. Capcom also hinted that the pendants may become available separately in the future.

Despite its promising debut, Monster Hunter Wilds has struggled over the past year, partly due to performance issues on the PC. The game continues to trail in sales compared to earlier titles in the series. Capcom hopes that initiatives such as price cuts, a new demo, and the forthcoming Ascendance expansion will help close the gap. Additionally, a port for the Switch 2 is scheduled for December, potentially boosting interest in combination with recent quality-of-life improvements.
