Bill Skarsgård leads Hideo Kojima’s horror game OD

Japanese game developer Hideo Kojima has provided a fresh update on his two upcoming projects with Xbox, OD and Physint, during the Tokyo Game Show 2026. This announcement comes on the heels of a significant shift, as Sony has stepped away from publishing Physint, initially a PlayStation-exclusive “action espionage” game. As a result, Xbox has taken over publishing responsibilities for both titles. Reports suggest that Sony’s withdrawal stemmed from concerns about budget, potential profitability, and exclusivity.

At the event, Kojima addressed these developments for the first time since the initial announcement, emphasizing the new partnership with Xbox. He revealed he had visited Xbox’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington earlier this year, where discussions with Xbox boss Asha Sharma about the future of gaming took place. Kojima noted a shared vision between Kojima Productions and Xbox regarding their collective goals.

OD-Knock: A Unique Horror Experience

The mysterious horror game, OD-Knock, was one of the main focuses of Kojima’s update. Describing it as a project unlike any before, he hinted that it could divide opinions. Despite past setbacks due to the SAG-AFTRA strike affecting performance capture and ADR recording, Kojima stated that development is advancing as scheduled. The cast, including Sophiua Lillis and Hunter Schafer, have reportedly delivered impressive performances. Kojima assured fans that OD-Knock would push the boundaries of fear, with more details to be disclosed later.

Physint: New Talent Joins the Cast

In an exciting reveal for Physint, Kojima announced that actor Bill Skarsgård will assume the leading role, joining an ensemble that includes Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe. Kojima also shared key artwork, showcasing character and costume designs captured during a recent photoshoot he conducted. Despite the enthusiasm, Kojima acknowledged that the game’s completion is still several years away, yet he promised more updates in the near future.

During Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary livestream, the developer hinted that Physint might just be the beginning of a larger series, although such developments may be years down the line. In 2025, Kojima had remarked that the game would not be released for another “five or six” years, potentially positioning it as a flagship title for Xbox’s upcoming project, currently dubbed Project Helix.
