Michaels has introduced a new store concept, now available in Rogers, Arkansas, after its initial debut in Easton, Ohio and Irving, Texas. The announcement came via a press release on Thursday, detailing the expansion of this experiential retail space.
Enhancements in Customer Experience
The innovative store layout brings several enhancements aimed at improving customer experience. A key feature is the Michaels Knit & Sew Shop, which takes a prominent spot at the store entrance. This shop was launched in 2025, following Michaels’ acquisition of intellectual property from Joann. In addition to the craft offerings, expanded services in framing and customisation include options for embroidery, engraving, and bespoke stickers.
Exclusive Rewards and New Departments
Loyalty members enjoy exclusive benefits with a dedicated self-checkout queue at a newly designed Welcome Center, where staff are on hand to assist. The stores also feature a combined florals and greenery department and a Pinterest Trend Bar highlighting items inspired by popular creative trends.
Company Vision and Future Plans
According to David Boone, CEO of Michaels, these new stores are part of a broader strategy to revolutionise the customer journey by transforming Michaels into a premier destination for creativity and community engagement. Boone emphasized that the new design aligns with customer preferences for inspirational, tangible experiences and fosters a communal environment.
This updated store format is a pilot for elements that will be gradually introduced across all Michaels locations. Furthermore, the retailer plans to open more concept stores through 2026, further solidifying its market presence.
Expansion into Party Supplies
The revamped stores also include a party shop section that was unveiled in 2025, positioning Michaels as a strong contender in the party decoration market, especially after Party City’s bankruptcy. This expansion into balloons and other decor marks a significant competitive move within the industry.
