Camera apps enhance iPhone 18 Pro aperture control

Enhanced Aperture Control Apps for iPhone 18 Pro

The iPhone 18 Pro’s camera capabilities have expanded significantly with the introduction of third-party apps, allowing users to circumvent the built-in iOS camera app’s limitation of just four aperture settings. Thanks to Apple’s SDK, developers have created applications providing greater aperture control opportunities.

One of the early pioneers in this space is BlackMagic Design, with its popular BlackMagic Camera app. Initially released with adjustable aperture capabilities, the app supports 10 different aperture settings between f/1.48 and f/4, offering more granular control compared to the native iOS app. iPhoneographers noted some bugs during initial testing of version 3.5, but version 3.5.1 has since improved performance and stability.

Adding to these advancements, Moment announced yesterday on social media platform X, the update of their Moment Pro Camera II app, priced at $12.99, to support the iPhone 18 Pro’s variable aperture feature. This update aligns with the enhancements made by BlackMagic, allowing users to adjust aperture in 1/3 stop increments, providing 10 preset options. Though the small sensor size of the iPhone 18 Pro might result in minimal visible differences in depth of field, the extended control is valuable for photography enthusiasts.
