Pokémon Pokopia Sales Surpass 5 Million Units Globally
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced that Pokémon Pokopia has achieved an impressive milestone, selling over five million copies worldwide. This includes both physical and digital editions and the game has been on the market for slightly more than four months.
Impressive Market Penetration
With the sale of over 20 million Nintendo Switch 2 units reported as of May 2026, approximately one in every four Switch 2 owners has purchased Pokémon Pokopia. Originally developed as a spin-off by the creators of Dragon Quest Builders, this game has swiftly become one of the most significant titles for the system, which itself was released only on 5th June, 2025.
Outpacing Traditional Pokémon Games
Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which received a dedicated edition for the Nintendo Switch 2, has sold 3.99 million units according to the latest data. While its overall sales, including those on the original Switch, may be higher, Pokémon Pokopia surpasses its performance strictly in terms of Switch 2 sales. Among all games, only Mario Kart World, with a staggering 15.39 million copies sold, has outperformed Pokopia on the new console.
Boost from Expansion Content
Sales figures have likely been boosted by this week’s release of the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass. The first part, dubbed “Bubbly Basin,” is now available and features an underwater town, new Pokémon, and fresh gameplay elements like furniture building and food preparation.
Strategic Moves from Koei Tecmo
Pokémon Pokopia is co-published by Nintendo and Koei Tecmo. The latter has expressed intentions to diversify its portfolio by reducing dependence on large-scale titles and investing in ports, remasters, and smaller projects targeting dedicated fan bases. Given Pokopia’s success, this strategy seems to be yielding positive results for the company.
