Cleartrip enters India’s holiday package market

Cleartrip, a prominent online travel agency under Flipkart, has announced its foray into the Indian holiday packages sector, a largely offline market segment valued at approximately $20 billion. The company introduced its customizable travel itineraries on Monday, aiming to digitise a space where online activity is minimal compared to flights and hotel bookings.

Customised Holiday Packages

The platform now offers flexible bundling of flights, hotels, activities, and transfers, allowing customers to tailor their holiday experiences. This marks a shift from traditional fixed-package offerings towards more versatile options. Cleartrip’s Chief Business Officer — Air, Gaurav Patwari, highlighted that India’s travel booking industry is valued between $75 billion and $80 billion, yet holiday packages remain predominantly unstructured with over 90% of the market being fragmented.

A New Approach to Travel Planning

Patwari explained that the typical choice for Indian travellers has been limited to either rigid package deals or self-planning, which can be time-consuming. Cleartrip seeks to fill this gap by providing expert-curated packages that travellers can adjust according to their preferences. The flexibility extends to hotels, flights, and activities, offering a controlled yet guided travel planning experience with expert assistance readily available when needed.
