Final Fantasy 7 director on easier Platinum trophy

The team behind Final Fantasy 7 is aiming for a more accessible gaming experience with its upcoming release, Revelation, according to director Naoki Hamaguchi. The sequel’s Platinum trophy will be easier to achieve, addressing feedback from the gaming community about the difficulty seen in the previous instalment, Rebirth.

Past Challenges Addressed

In a discussion with Anime News Network, Hamaguchi elaborated on the challenges players faced with Rebirth’s Platinum trophy, as only 2.6% of players managed to unlock it. The director revealed the intent was to have players thoroughly explore and master the extensive content. “We wanted to make people go through all this content and perfect it,” he stated, attributing the difficulty to intentional design choices.

Feedback and Regrets

Hamaguchi acknowledged having “regrets” after observing the overwhelming player response regarding Rebirth’s challenging requirements. Despite stopping short of dubbing the design as a “mistake in judgement,” he conceded underestimating the sheer number of players striving for the Platinum trophy. Battle director Teruki Endo also shared his sentiments, expressing regret over the fan reaction.

New Approach for Revelation

In light of past experiences, Hamaguchi explained that the upcoming Revelation will focus on making combat not only challenging but also enjoyable. “For Revelation, the platinum trophy will be easier to get,” Hamaguchi assured, aiming for at least 20% of players to successfully achieve it, possibly even more.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release on 8th April 2027 across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. Hamaguchi remains confident that the new game, despite its open-world ambitions, will provide a fulfilling experience for players.
