Lie-flat seats causing Wi-Fi issues on airlines

United Airlines is rolling out Starlink Wi-Fi on its aircraft, a popular service among frequent flyers due to its consistent and robust internet connectivity. Over 600 of United’s planes have already been equipped with Starlink, with plans to expand to 1,000 by the end of the year, significantly ahead of its competitors.

Competitive Obstacles

Currently, United Airlines is extending an offer to loyal customers of American Airlines and Delta Airlines, providing them with a chance to experience the Starlink service. While United pushes forward with Starlink, American Airlines will not begin its implementation of similar technology until 2027. In contrast, Delta Airlines has selected Amazon Leo as its provider, which is not yet tested on commercial flights, raising concerns about the effectiveness of their choice.

Customer Experience

For regular travellers, encountering unreliable Wi-Fi that repeatedly disconnects or requires multiple logins can be frustrating. A smooth, unbroken internet session is especially prized by those who spend considerable time in the air. United’s shift to Starlink positions it well to deliver a superior in-flight connectivity experience, at least for now.
