KnitWell Group appoints head of digital and data

KnitWell Group has announced the appointment of Angelica Munson as its chief digital and customer data officer. The position, specifically created for Munson, was made public in a company press release dated 22 September.

New Role and Responsibilities

In this newly established role, Munson will be responsible for spearheading the handling of customer data, insights, digital marketing, AI-assisted marketing technologies, personalisation, and overall enterprise strategy at KnitWell Group, which includes well-known brands like Ann Taylor and Talbots.

Munson’s Professional Background

Before her transition to KnitWell Group, Angelica Munson held significant roles, notably as the global chief digital officer at Shiseido Group. Her career also includes senior positions at Fast Retailing, encompassing brands such as Theory and Helmut Lang, as well as at Estée Lauder’s Clinique brand.

Future Vision for KnitWell Group

Lizanne Kindler, executive chair and CEO of KnitWell Group, praised Munson as a distinguished leader in the digital transformation space. Kindler highlighted Munson’s proficiency at the intersection of customer insight, technological capability, and marketing, which will be instrumental in establishing robust data, digital, and customer engagement frameworks for KnitWell’s brand portfolio.

Company Background and Recent Developments

KnitWell Group was formed three years ago, combining Ann Taylor, Loft, and Talbots after a restructuring that followed the insolvency of Ascena Group. This reorganization was facilitated by Sycamore Partners, which acquired these brands during the bankruptcy proceedings. Furthermore, in 2024, Sycamore Partners expanded KnitWell by purchasing Chico’s FAS for $1 billion, adding White House Black Market and Soma to the group.

Sycamore Partners, known for its wide-ranging investments, also has ownership stakes in other key retail companies, including Staples and Torrid. Additionally, Ann Taylor is actively seeking to reinvigorate its market presence, having launched a significant integrated campaign for the first time in nearly ten years this past summer.
