Veteran game producer Tomohiko Sho, known for his work on Dynasty Warriors, has revealed his preference for focusing on developing new games rather than remastering previous titles. While he hasn’t entirely discounted the possibility of future remasters, Sho expressed a desire to prioritise new projects over revisiting older ones.
A Preference for Innovation
Sho spoke with 4Gamer shortly after the release of Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered, launched to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary. The remaster, available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, was enhanced using Unreal Engine 5. Despite acknowledging fans’ interest in more remasters, Sho indicated that future projects would hinge on the remaster’s performance, though he would rather not spearhead such an endeavour himself.
A Look to the Future
Sho is keen on dedicating the remainder of his career to crafting new games or sequels. Reflecting on his current phase in life, he shared, “I’m in my fifties now, and I sometimes think about ‘how many more games can I make before I retire’, so I’d rather make new games or sequels.”
Commitment to Fans
Despite his preference to create new content, Sho recognises the fans’ enthusiasm for remastered versions of classic games. He remains open to the idea of remasters, potentially delegating such projects to other members of his team while he continues to innovate and develop new titles.
Currently, the remastered version of Dynasty Warriors 3 has received a ‘Very Positive’ rating based on Steam reviews, indicating a favourable response from players to this revived classic.
