Airline expands network without adding planes

In an innovative move, Tigerair Taiwan, a low-cost airline, is expanding its route offerings without acquiring additional aircraft. By leveraging the platform Tigerhop, developed in partnership with Iceland’s Dohop, the airline allows customers to book journeys that combine Tigerair’s and Scoot’s networks directly via its own sales channels.

Innovative Network Expansion

Traditional methods of airline network expansion involve adding new flights or entering into interline and codeshare agreements with other carriers. Tigerair Taiwan, however, is adopting a different strategy by integrating its booking process with Singapore-based Scoot’s network. This collaboration enables customers to seamlessly plan itineraries that start with Tigerair routes and continue on Scoot’s flights.

Connecting Through Tigerhop

The launch of Tigerhop introduces new travel opportunities by connecting routes such as Taipei and Da Nang with Singapore on Scoot. From Singapore, travellers have access to further destinations including Akita, Hanamaki, and Tottori in Japan.

A statement from Tigerair Taiwan highlights the benefits of this strategy, emphasizing that Tigerhop allows the airline to extend its reach into new markets without the complexities of acquiring additional aircraft or altering its core operations. This aligns with the company’s goal of maintaining a streamlined and efficient operational model while expanding its service offerings.
