Arc Raiders and The Finals to be adapted for screen

Embark Studios has partnered with Chernin Entertainment to create film and TV adaptations of their popular video games, Arc Raiders and The Finals. This collaboration follows Chernin Entertainment’s recent success with the Backrooms horror film, which significantly boosted their profile in the entertainment industry.

Several production companies vied for adaptation rights, but Chernin emerged victorious. Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Embark, emphasised the importance of maintaining the original creativity of the games in their new adaptations, viewing this agreement as a key step in developing immersive transmedia experiences for both properties.

Chernin’s film president, David Ready, expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting the visual and atmospheric depth of Nexon-owned Embark’s creations and the plethora of stories they have to offer. However, details regarding the director, writer, or cast members involved in these adaptations have yet to be disclosed.

Growing Trend of Game Adaptations

The move to adapt Arc Raiders and The Finals follows a broader trend of video game properties transitioning to film and television. Recently, Sega forged a deal with Netflix to create projects based on Sonic The Hedgehog and other games, reaffirming the industry’s interest in such cross-media ventures.

Arc Raiders, in particular, stands out as a promising candidate for adaptation, with its distinctive narrative involving massive robotic antagonists likely to translate well into visual media. The game has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 16 million copies since launching a year ago.

Engagement Boost with New Content

To attract new players, Arc Raiders is offering a free trial from 8th to 12th October, coinciding with the release of its significant update, Frozen Trails. Furthermore, a Player vs Environment (PvE) test is set for 13th October, inviting participants to explore the game’s cooperative elements and scavenger dynamics.
