AI-Powered Acne Prescriptions Now Available in Utah
Nolla Health, a healthcare startup, has launched an innovative AI-driven service that allows Utah residents to receive acne treatment prescriptions through a simple face scan using an app. Utah is the first state to authorise such technology, permitting Nolla Health’s AI system to autonomously generate initial prescriptions, rather than merely renewing existing ones as other companies do.
Pilot Programme with Physician Oversight
The service, currently in its pilot phase, incorporates gradually decreasing levels of physician supervision. Initially, two doctors are required to approve each prescription generated by the AI for the first 100 patients. Once this initial threshold is met, physicians will then review prescriptions post-issuance for up to 500 patients. Following this stage, at least 10% of prescriptions will be audited monthly, alongside any cases involving complications or side effects.
A New Frontier in Healthcare
Nolla Health contends that this pilot does not intend to replace physicians but rather serve as an aid to them. By focusing on routine, lower-risk acne cases through their app, they aim to give dermatologists more time to devote to complex and high-risk patients. The company’s AI currently prescribes eight different skincare treatments. If the AI system cannot make a confident treatment selection, users are referred to a physician.
Conditions and Cost
Services are available exclusively to Utah residents who are at least 18 years old and suffer from mild to moderate acne. The programme is priced at $4.99 per month.
