India’s civil aviation ministry has granted airlines and Adani Airport Holdings additional time to arrange the relocation of certain international flights from Mumbai’s Terminal 2 to the forthcoming Navi Mumbai Airport. This decision comes after a meeting on Tuesday aimed at addressing the forthcoming transition.
Despite this deferment, the migration plan remains unchanged. The ministry has instructed both the airlines and Adani Airport to develop a detailed strategy for the transition to Navi Mumbai. Discussions are scheduled to continue with a meeting set for October 13 and a subsequent one expected by October 20 to finalise the details.
The ministry’s involvement followed a meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday, coinciding with the deadline for airlines to declare which services they would relinquish to meet the relocation objectives. This gathering took place on the same day that airlines faced a 4 pm deadline to inform Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) of the flights they were prepared to cede.
