The gaming world is abuzz with the inaugural showcase from Kinetic Publishing, an indie publishing label launched by the creators of the popular co-op horror game, Phasmophobia. This showcase introduces five daring titles scheduled for launch in 2027 and 2028, including the much-anticipated game from Sam Barlow.
New Game from Acclaimed Developer Sam Barlow
A key highlight from the Kinetic showcase is Precognition, the upcoming title by Sam Barlow, renowned for his works Telling Lies and Immortality. Previously known as “Project C,” this game will feature Barlow’s signature FMV-sequences and nonlinear storytelling. In Precognition, players assume the role of Diana, who begins to experience future visions after receiving an experimental brain implant. As players interact with these visions, they alter the timeline by remembering details, which in turn creates a ripple effect in the future.
This title is a collaborative effort between Barlow’s Half Mermaid Productions and film director Brandon Cronenberg, known for Infinity Pool and Possessor. It is set for release in spring 2028 and will be available on platforms including the Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Diverse Upcoming Game Lineup
The showcase also highlighted several other games that span various genres, slated for release across major gaming platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S:
- Contact Protocol by Cold Zephyr Games is scheduled for spring 2027. This “starship job simulator” positions players as a security officer responsible for screening incoming starships.
- Crescent County from Electric Saint is a “cosy-with-bite slice-of-life game” that involves forming connections on a magical island and using a “motorbroom” for deliveries and races. Its release is targeted for summer 2027.
- Shellbound, a Metroidvania adventure set on a colossal, living snail, developed by Fake Lobster, is expected in summer 2028.
- Aether Wizard Life by Vonder Games, another cosy-themed game focusing on wizardry, is anticipated in autumn 2028.
Kinetic Publishing, announced in January, is part of a growing trend where successful indie developers, such as Pocketpair of Palworld fame and Black Tabby Games of Slay the Princess, are branching out to publish games from other developers, providing financial support and a platform for new talent in the gaming industry.
