Apple Joins Forces with LG for New Smart Home Devices
Apple and LG are partnering to introduce a range of new smart home products, including a video doorbell, thermostat, and indoor camera, reports indicate. These products will carry LG branding and are rumoured to be compatible with Apple’s soon-to-be-released smart home hub. The launch of these devices is expected during a special event on October 13th.
In addition to the aforementioned devices, there are reports of a deadbolt lock, outdoor security camera, and a floodlight camera in development. The devices are said to support the Thread and Matter smart home protocols, signalling a comprehensive update for Apple’s HomeKit platform. The smart lock, in particular, may feature an ultra-wideband capability that allows automatic unlocking as the user approaches.
Speculation has been mounting about Apple’s intention to enhance its presence in the smart home industry. A new smart home hub, potentially featuring Siri and equipped with a six-inch screen, is reportedly in the works, capable of being wall-mounted or placed on a table. Expectations are high that Apple will unveil this hub later in the month, possibly alongside a new HomePod mini and an advanced Apple TV device.
