Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2 Adds Auracast Feature
Bose has introduced a notable feature to its flagship QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2, integrating Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast through a firmware update. This marks the first time Bose, a prominent name in audio technology, is incorporating the audio-sharing technology into its products, signalling a significant step forward for Auracast’s visibility.
Leading the Way in Audio Sharing
Despite being announced in 2022, Auracast’s adoption among manufacturers has been slow. The technology enables devices to simultaneously broadcast Bluetooth audio to numerous compatible headphones or speakers. This can prove beneficial in a variety of scenarios, such as broadcasting information at airports, enhancing live performances, enriching college lectures, or even offering personalised TV audio at home when others are resting.
Industry and Consumer Impacts
Bose’s move to incorporate Auracast is noteworthy as one of the few major players alongside Sony, JBL, Samsung Galaxy Buds, and Sennheiser, all of which have embraced the technology on selected devices. Although smaller tech firms like EarFun have adopted it too, Bose’s participation could help drive wider acceptance. It’s anticipated that more of Bose’s products will soon feature this technology.
More Than Just Auracast
The firmware update, version 10.12.12, has been progressively deployed over the past weeks, further enhancing the audio experience on the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2. Beyond the integration of Auracast, improvements include enhanced audio quality for wired USB connections, as well as better audio balance for gaming and web conferencing operations.
According to a statement from Bose spokesperson Tim Williams, delivered to The Verge, the QC Headphones Gen 2 are also expected to receive this update in its beta form soon.
