Brand USA, the nation’s tourism marketing organisation, is approaching the end of a $250 million financial boost from Congress, which temporarily offset significant federal funding cuts. This financial lifeline, introduced in 2022 to aid post-Covid recovery, is set to wind down, positioning Brand USA to face the full impact of last year’s funding reduction, which amounted to an $80 million annual shortfall.
Impending Budget Constraints
Thanks to the temporary $250 million injection, Brand USA has operated with a budget nearly matching pre-pandemic levels. The organisation plans to allocate $158 million for fiscal 2026 and $165 million for fiscal 2027, beginning next month. These figures align with Brand USA’s historical spending data recorded in tax filings.
Future Financial Challenges
Moving into fiscal 2028, Brand USA anticipates a shift in its financial landscape. After a notable drawdown of $114.1 million, the organisation expects its cash reserves to dwindle to approximately $51 million by the close of September 2027. These funds are primarily designated as a contingency resource, leaving Brand USA vulnerable due to diminished contributions from federal channels and partners. With these constraints, the organisation must strategise to sustain its operations effectively.
