CD Projekt Red aims for 2028 release of The Witcher 4

CD Projekt Red has provided insights into their much-anticipated game, The Witcher 4, with a projected release year of 2028. While this timeline is not set in stone, joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski assures fans that this will be the company’s “biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.” He encourages patience from the gaming community, promising that the wait will be justifiable.

Details reveal that the development team consists of over 500 individuals dedicated to crafting this new saga, which promises an expansive open world, engaging action, and a profound narrative. Among the team members is noted animator Clair Obscur from Expedition 33. The game is expected to continue The Witcher series’ legacy of immersive storytelling and complex gameplay.

The Witcher 3 Expansion: Songs of the Past

Upcoming DLC for The Witcher 3, named Songs of the Past, is also garnering attention. This expansion introduces a new continent and promises a dark storyline centred around Geralt, rather than Ciri, who will play a leading role in the subsequent The Witcher 4. The development team for this addition is reportedly as large as, if not larger than, the original Witcher 3 team.

Although specific timelines remain elusive, speculation suggests the expansion could incorporate flashbacks or be set in the historical past, as hinted by its title. CD Projekt Red plans to unveil more details during Gamescom, an event where the expansion will make its debut and developers will be available to discuss the project further.

The gaming studio has teased additional surprises at the show, though details about these remain under wraps. Further information is anticipated as summer progresses.
