CD Projekt Red has confirmed that layoffs have occurred within its team working on Project Sirius, a Witcher spin-off with multiplayer aspects. As detailed in a statement, the company announced that team size adjustments were made to align with the current requirements of the project’s development phase. This has resulted in the departure of four employees based in Boston and five in Warsaw. Additionally, nine team members have been offered opportunities to pursue new roles within other CD Projekt Red projects.
Team Restructuring Revealed for Project Sirius
Project Sirius, a game still largely under wraps, was originally part of various projects announced by CD Projekt Red in 2022. Initially developed by Molasses Flood, which was later acquired by CD Projekt Red in 2025, the game experienced a reboot after the company reconsidered the initial concept’s scope and commercial viability. As of May, 83 employees were confirmed to be working on Sirius, despite recent layoffs which leave the team still significantly staffed.
Shifts in Development Strategy
The news of the layoffs was reported by Kotaku, referencing an unnamed source who pointed to a broader strategic shift in development as the catalyst for these changes. Meanwhile, earlier this year, the project appeared to gain traction with a writer from Destiny 2 and Guild Wars 2 joining the team, along with developments on a separate Witcher multiplayer mobile game.
Ongoing Projects and Collaborations
In addition to Project Sirius, CD Projekt Red’s primary focus remains on The Witcher 4, although a collaboration with Fool’s Theory is expected to release a Witcher 3 expansion named Songs of the Past next year. Simultaneously, the company is also working on a sequel to Cyberpunk. These projects demonstrate ongoing commitments despite the recent restructuring within the Sirius team.
