delta eyes Austin for its next Texas hub

Delta Air Lines is intensifying its operations in Texas, traditionally a territory dominated by airlines like American and Southwest. The company is particularly focusing on expansion in Austin and San Antonio, reported by Delta CEO Ed Bastian in a recent podcast. He emphasised Delta’s intent to increase its presence in the region.

Significant Moves in Austin

Delta is making substantial advancements in Austin, which may position the city as its next hub. The airline has established a base for 100 flight attendants at Austin’s airport and secured 15 gates to enhance its operations. Additionally, it plans to open a new lounge at the airport.

In a significant development, Delta will introduce the first nonstop flights from Austin to Europe, with a service to Paris scheduled to commence on March 27, 2027. This marks a critical step in expanding international travel options from the city.

Branding and Merchandise

Reflecting its growing commitment to Austin, Delta has included the city in its merch store lineup. A variety of Austin-branded items such as pint glasses, keychains, and t-shirts are available, showcasing the airline’s branding strategy in its emerging hub locations.
