Disney unveils new metric for cruise growth strategy

Disney is significantly enhancing its focus on the cruise sector, as indicated by a recent financial metric. Over the first nine months of fiscal year 2026, a combined measurement known as “global guests” — which accounts for both park attendance and passenger cruise days — increased by 4%. This metric, introduced by CEO Josh D’Amaro in an August shareholder letter, highlights Disney’s worldwide and diverse experiences segment.

In what appears to be a substantial growth strategy, Disney is executing a 10-year, $60 billion investment plan in its experiences division, which includes theme parks and cruise operations. Around 20% of this budget is allocated to more than double its cruise ships to a fleet of 13 by 2030.

CEO Josh D’Amaro emphasized in an August message that the “global guests” metric was introduced to better reflect Disney’s commitments and diversification in its experiences business globally. The metric was first cited in a quarterly report published in August, illustrating the company’s strategic emphasis on integrating and expanding cruise experiences within its broader entertainment framework.
