Electronic Arts (EA) has officially responded following the unexpected leak of early footage from their upcoming Iron Man game. The company admitted that the leak was unintended, stating, “well, that didn’t go as planned”, but assured fans there is more on the horizon, saying, “we’ve got a lot more to show you. See you when we’re ready.”
Details of the Leak
The leaked content, which appeared on ResetEra, contains approximately two-and-a-half minutes of gameplay. The footage originates from an “Aug26 test” build and showcases Iron Man navigating what seems to be an open-world environment. The gameplay highlights transitions from aerial combat to on-ground engagements in rapid succession, illustrating a sense of agility and speed.
Development Challenges
EA Motive’s Iron Man project has endured a rocky path since its initial announcement four years ago, characterised by an extended period of silence. Additionally, another Marvel-themed endeavour by EA, a Black Panther game, was reportedly abandoned during this time.
Previous Iron Man Gaming Efforts
This isn’t the first attempt to bring Iron Man to gaming audiences in recent years. Around 2012, developer Avalanche was reportedly working on an Iron Man title, with footage from that project incidentally emerging earlier this week. Iron Man also appeared in Square Enix’s 2020 Avengers game, although it hasn’t been as well-received as other Marvel games like their Guardians of the Galaxy game from 2021.
