Expedia Group is undergoing a reorganisation to expedite its product and technology advancements. As part of this reshaping, the company is reducing its leadership team by cutting eight senior positions, including that of Sachin Singh, Senior Vice President of book-to-trip technology. Other departing vice presidents have been overseeing areas such as payments, fraud, and self-service tools.
The company aims to decentralise authority by forming smaller, AI-focused teams that are more closely aligned with the brands they support. This strategy involves redistributing the duties of the outgoing executives to remaining leaders in technology, the Chief Information Security Officer, and the finance department.
Expedia’s restructure heavily affects its substantial technology workforce. The company’s latest annual report highlights that approximately half of its 16,000 staff members are engaged in tech roles, equating to around 8,000 employees in product and tech. Of these, an estimated 5,000 are engineers, as shared in previous discussions.
Chief Product Officer Shilpa Ranganathan and Chief Technology Officer Ramana Thota have underscored the transformative impact of AI, suggesting that these changes are aligned with the new possibilities it presents.
