Final Fantasy Resonance mod brings back Ariana Grande icon

Despite Final Fantasy Resonance’s full release being set for next month, modders have already begun experimenting with its demo to resurrect beloved elements from its predecessor, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Notably, they are reintroducing the game’s eclectic array of characters, including pop star Ariana Grande.

Final Fantasy Resonance is a reimagining of the discontinued mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. While neither a direct port nor a remake, it builds upon the narrative foundation set by the original game. One of its standout features is the use of “Visions,” which allows players to summon iconic characters from across the Final Fantasy series to assist in battles. These include well-known figures like Cloud, Lightning, and Cecil.

Modding Community Expands Character Roster

Recently, modders have ambitiously augmented the character selection by incorporating nearly 1,300 units from Brave Exvius into the Resonance demo through the FFR Vision Studio mod. This expansion includes guests who were perhaps unexpected for such a serious game, like Sora from Kingdom Hearts and 2B from Nier Automata, allowing them to appear as Visions.

Brave Exvius wasn’t well-received at its launch, mainly due to its perceived lack of quality and the seemingly random inclusion of guest characters such as Ariana Grande and Katy Perry. However, over time, some fans, especially those with a penchant for campy and unconventional ideas, have grown fond of these quirky collaborations.

Development and Future Enhancements

In a discussion with Kotaku, producer Keisuke Nakashima expressed reservations about including Ariana Grande’s character in Final Fantasy Resonance, stating that it does not align with the game’s atmosphere. Nonetheless, the modding community continues to work on enhancing the mod. Their plans include refining animations, introducing a skill dictionary for the abilities inherited from Brave Exvius, and potentially creating side quests to obtain specific Visions.
