Google Discover enhances feed with AI chatbot integration

Google Discover to Introduce AI-Powered Customisation Feature

Google is set to unveil a new feature for its Discover feed on the Google app, allowing users to tailor their content preferences via an AI-driven chatbot interface. The rollout is expected to commence in the coming days.

This enhancement offers users the ability to specify the type of content they wish to view in their Discover feed. Accessible through the three-dot menu in Discover, users can input their preferences into a chatbot-style platform. The system, designed to understand and recall user preferences, provides a preview of the content types it will emphasise. If the initial setup is not to a user’s satisfaction, additional adjustments can be made. Users can then refresh their feed to see the customised content.

This update aims to enhance user control over Discover feed content recommendations, which are influenced by personal search and app activity on Google. It mirrors similar AI customisation efforts found in other platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Bluesky, and X.

Alongside this update, Google announced several other features, including personalisation options for daily audio briefings within the Google News app for Android. Additionally, the Preferred Sources feature will be updated, enabling publishers to add an “interactive Preferred Sources button” on their websites. This button allows readers to effortlessly add favourite outlets to their news feeds within Search’s “top stories” section, as well as in AI Overview and AI Mode, directly from the webpage.
