Grand Ji Hotel develops distinct Chinese premium brand

H World Group, a prominent player in the hospitality industry, has launched Grand Ji Hotel as its premium brand, aiming to deliver a unique experience based on Chinese design philosophies. Instead of following global luxury trends, the brand emphasises a modern take on Chinese aesthetics and hospitality, focusing on elements like privacy, calm, and guest convenience.

Expanding Presence with a Unique Chinese Perspective

Grand Ji Hotel, as of June’s end, encompasses two properties with 441 rooms, with eighteen additional sites under development. The design integrates elements such as nature, calm, and the rich traditions of art, food, and tea to enhance guest experience, supported by H World’s technological and logistical frameworks.

Founder and creative director of Vermilion Zhou Design Group, Kuang Ming (Ray) Chou, contributes to the hotel’s vision, blending cultural nuances into the design. Guests encounter this cultural immersion upon arrival, starting with a tea ceremony that serves as a welcoming gesture.

Defining Premium Hospitality

Chou underscores the shift in premium hospitality towards enhancing experience quality, prioritising aspects like privacy and soundproofing over mere abundance. This is evident at Grand Ji Hotel, where careful spatial design and light partitions in common areas ensure more privacy, aligning with modern Chinese traveller preferences.

Incorporating cultural meanings into the design, features at the hotel are inspired by elements like water and tea, representing adaptability and everyday life respectively. Such inspirations extend beyond physical aesthetics to become integral parts of the guest journey.

Focus on Calm and Technology Integration

Grand Ji Hotel places significant emphasis on creating a calm environment, beginning with a designed entryway that promotes a tranquil transition into the hotel. This ambiance continues inside, where subdued colour palettes and measured use of space encourage quieter, more relaxed interactions.

While technology plays a key role in maintaining guest comfort, it aims to remain unobtrusive. Services such as room access via smartphones and voice-controlled functions exemplify how technology supports rather than overshadows the sensory experience of a stay.

Broadening Horizons with Consistent Standards

H World’s grand vision includes expanding the Grand Ji Hotel under a unified brand identity that remains consistent across diverse locations. The company’s expansive operational scale, boasting over 13,000 hotels, supports this endeavour through effective use of supply chains and technological infrastructure.

As the brand grows, the challenge lies in retaining the distinctive characteristics that define Grand Ji Hotel’s premium hospitality offering. If successful, H World could redefine premium hospitality by showcasing a version uniquely informed by contemporary and traditional Chinese values.
