IndiGo, the low-cost carrier, has increased its fees for various optional services as a strategy to boost revenue without altering its budget-friendly ticket prices. This move comes as the airline navigates the economic strategies under the leadership of Willie Walsh.
Fee Adjustments
The charges for several ancillary services have been revised. For instance, the cost for infants travelling without a separate seat, a category for kids between three days and two years old, has been increased to INR 3,000 ($31) from the previous INR 2,000 ($21). Similarly, the domestic excess baggage fee has risen to INR 800 ($8.3) per kilogram from INR 700 ($7.3).
Changes in Service Costs
Among the services that saw a price hike is IndiGo’s Fast Forward service, which ensures priority check-in and boarding. The cost for this service domestically has gone up to INR 650 ($7), an increase from the earlier charge of INR 450 ($5). These adjustments highlight IndiGo’s approach to generating additional revenue streams by enhancing the service costs while maintaining the core low-cost fares.
