Zuckerberg Acquires Historic Irish Estate
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has expanded his extensive real estate portfolio with the acquisition of Strancally Castle, a historic property in Ireland. The castle, dating back to around 1830, is situated on a 440-acre estate.
A Noteworthy Addition
Details of the purchase reported by The Irish Times suggest that the transaction took place “several weeks ago,” with estimates of the cost ranging from €20 million to €30 million. This significant addition to Zuckerberg’s holdings follows renovations made by the previous owners, Michael Alen-Buckley and his wife, Giancarla. Alen-Buckley is known as a co-founder of a private investment company.
International Appeal with Local Roots
The castle purchase aligns with Meta’s presence in Ireland, where the company maintains its international headquarters. Despite the acquisition, Brian Baker, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg, indicated that the family will continue to primarily live in the United States. However, he mentioned that “Mark and his family look forward to caring for this historic home and visiting when traveling to Ireland.”
Expanding Real Estate Ventures
Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan’s property interests extend beyond Ireland, encompassing over 11 properties in Palo Alto, as well as other locations such as Florida, Washington, D.C., and Hawaii. This latest purchase further cements the couple’s standing within an exclusive circle of property owners with historic international estates.
