Meta Introduces AI for Small Business Operations
Meta is now increasingly catering to small businesses by launching Muse for Small Business, an AI tool designed to assist with tasks across various business software, as detailed in a recent company blog post.
Integration with Business Platforms
The AI agent is not only capable of pulling information from businesses’ Instagram and Facebook accounts but also seamlessly integrates with platforms such as Shopify, Stripe, Intuit QuickBooks, Asana, Box, Canva, and Zoom. This integration allows Muse to efficiently manage tasks related to branding, store management, accounting, and customer records.
Available to businesses at no cost up to a certain token usage, subscription plans for extended services range from $20 to $100 monthly.
Expansion from Personal to Business Use
Originally launched for individuals in the U.S. and Canada, Muse has now been expanded to support small businesses. The AI agent previously facilitated tasks like form filling, email dispatch, travel arrangements, and converting recipes into shopping lists, as noted in Meta’s announcement from September 8.
For business functions, a crucial feature is the option for human authorization before Muse executes purchases or disseminates information.
Data Privacy and Security Measures
In terms of transactions, Muse uses single-card numbers for each new merchant interaction, refrains from gathering passwords or payment details, and isolates its operational data from Meta’s advertising infrastructure. A Meta spokesperson confirmed these measures in communication with Retail Dive.
Challenges with Amazon
Despite the promising launch, challenges have emerged. Amazon has requested that its e-commerce site be removed from the Muse platform citing lack of consent. This issue is reminiscent of a legal case last year, where Amazon litigated against Perplexity for similar reasons. Although a temporary block was initially placed by the court against Perplexity using Amazon for transactions, it was overturned by a U.S. appeals court in August. The legal battle between Amazon and Perplexity continues.
