Qatar’s tourism industry is witnessing signs of recovery with August arrivals reaching 303,000, marking a 6.3% increase from 285,000 in July, as per data from Qatar Tourism. This improvement follows a severe decline in visitor numbers due to the U.S.-Iran conflict that erupted on February 28, leading to significant disruptions in air travel and regional demand, causing arrivals to plummet from 646,000 in January to just 63,000 in March.
In the broader context, Qatar saw a total of 2.3 million visitors entering through various channels such as land, air, and sea from January to August 2026. This figure represents a 30% reduction compared to the 3.3 million tourists during the same period in 2025, which in total had seen 5.1 million arrivals by year-end.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have significantly contributed to this year’s visitor count, providing 958,000 tourists which constitute 41% of the total. Meanwhile, arrivals from Asia and Oceania totaled 489,000 or 20.9%, closely followed by Europe with 486,000 visitors, making up 20.8% of the international arrivals.
