Jagex is set to launch RuneScape Reignited on 2 December, offering a fresh take on the classic MMORPG experience as part of an exciting lineup from the developer. The announcement was made at RuneFest 2026 in Birmingham, alongside the unveiling of a fourth RuneScape MMORPG built using Unreal Engine technology.
New Beginnings with RuneScape Reignited
RuneScape Reignited introduces a new permanent character type that offers players a completely fresh start within the existing RuneScape worlds. This iteration promises a brand-new game economy and an updated leaderboard system with no paid progression, allowing all players to enjoy a level playing field. For the first 10 days after its launch, Reignited characters will have free access to members’ content, giving fans an incentive to dive back into Gielinor.
Jagex conveyed through a blog post, titled “RuneScape As It Was Always Meant To Be”, that this new version is designed for players who may have felt disconnected or uncertain about re-engaging with the game. “There genuinely has never been a better time to jump back in or to experience the full adventure from the start,” noted the development team, calling Reignited the “culmination” of their efforts this year and a pivotal new chapter for RuneScape.
Engaging New and Existing Players
For newcomers, RuneScape Reignited offers the chance to immerse themselves in 25 years of game history from a unified starting point, while existing players will see their worlds come alive once again as the community expands. Jagex aims to integrate Reignited characters into the everyday life of Gielinor, akin to the Ironman experience.
Additional Announcements at RuneFest
Beyond Reignited, a new RuneScape animated adaptation is on the horizon, produced in collaboration with popular YouTuber Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White. This addition aims to broaden the franchise’s reach into different media formats.
Additionally, the revelation of a clone of Old School RuneScape appearing briefly on the internet has piqued community interest. The unofficial version was quickly shut down after being encountered by fans earlier in the week.
All of these updates, including RuneScape Reignited and a comprehensive Adventure Guide, will be delivered in a single update on 2 December, setting the stage for a significant evolution in the RuneScape realm.
