Sling TV discontinues single-day cable passes

Sling TV Discontinues One-Day Viewing Pass Feature

Sling TV, operated by Dish Network, has ceased offering its Sling Pass feature, which previously allowed users to purchase short-term access to live television content. This decision affects those who enjoyed watching channels such as ESPN and CNN without committing to a full-month subscription.

Initially launched last year, Sling Pass provided users with flexibility through various pass options, including a day pass, weekend pass, and week-long pass. Despite its appeal, the introduction of this feature led to legal challenges from Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery. These corporations filed lawsuits against Sling TV, objecting to the Sling Pass offering. Although a federal judge ruled against Disney’s request to block the service via a preliminary injunction, Sling TV has now chosen to halt the service.

In a statement on its website, Sling TV reflected on the initiative, stating, “Sling was built to give our customers the ultimate control over their entertainment, and Sling Passes delivered on that promise for millions.” They also assured users of their ongoing commitment to providing innovative viewing experiences, despite the departure of Sling Pass. This statement was communicated to subscribers, reinforcing the company’s dedication to exploring new avenues for content delivery.
