Take-Two Interactive is intensifying efforts to identify the source behind leaked gameplay footage from the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. According to reports, the company has issued several subpoenas in a federal district court seeking to compel Microsoft and Discord to provide information that could pinpoint the individual behind the leaks.
Legal Actions and Deadline
Take-Two’s legal team submitted a subpoena to the Southern District Court of New York on 20th August. This document cites the leaked content, which includes audiovisual elements, artwork, and dialogue, as copyrighted material. The subpoenas are aimed at acquiring data from Microsoft and Discord that could lead to the discovery of the identity of the leaker, known as “CyberLeek”. Both companies have been given a deadline of 4th September to comply and provide relevant data, such as user IDs, email addresses, IP addresses, and details of associated Xbox and Google accounts.
Discord Accounts Under Scrutiny
The legal request also targets specific Discord users. It demands information about accounts linked to usernames such as CyberLeek, CinematicRockstar, Surfer24K, Odyssey, and DarkViperAU, who are associated with the Discord servers involved in the leak.
Ongoing Leaks and Speculation
The leak saga, now in its third day, has seen the release of at least seven videos. In the most recent footage, co-protagonist Jason is depicted zooming through the streets of Vice City in a supercar. CyberLeek, who claims to represent “gamers’ rights,” suggests there is some level of interactive access to GTA 6, as seen in footage where Jason spells out the word “leek” on a wall with gunfire.
Cryptocurrency Connection
The group behind CyberLeek is believed to be promoting a suspicious cryptocurrency initiative. They are pushing a $CYBERLEEK meme coin, purportedly to fund a “secret project.” However, there’s growing evidence, highlighted by reports, that suggests the primary motive might be personal financial gain.
Attempts to obtain a comment from Rockstar have been made, without any response yet. The gaming community waits with bated breath as the situation unfolds.
