Tapestry Integrates Coach and Kate Spade into Google’s AI Shopping Platform
Expansion into Digital Commerce
Tapestry has made a significant move by partnering with Google’s AI shopping ecosystem, allowing consumers to purchase Coach and Kate Spade products directly from Google Search. This initiative features the use of AI mode and the Gemini app, streamlining the shopping experience for users by enabling transactions without leaving the Google platform.
Enhanced Shopping Experience
Utilising the Gemini app or AI mode, customers can seamlessly check out using Google Pay, with each purchase requiring customer authorisation. This integration is powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol, which currently supports checkouts in the United States, with plans to expand internationally.
Strategic Use of AI
The collaboration with Google represents Tapestry’s strategy to harness artificial intelligence to expand its reach beyond traditional retail avenues like physical stores and online sites. “Our goal is for shoppers to find and engage with our brands at the moment when inspiration strikes,” said Joanne Crevoiserat, CEO of Tapestry.
Google’s Growing AI Retail Solutions
Google has been enhancing its AI retail offerings with the introduction of AI Mode. This advancement combines Gemini with Shopping Graph to offer features such as virtual try-ons, price comparisons, and personalised product recommendations.
Broader Industry Trends
Other retailers, including Ulta Beauty and Walmart, have also incorporated their inventories into Google’s AI platform, providing consumers the opportunity to explore and purchase products directly. However, industry experts caution about potential downsides like losing direct interaction and data insights from such collaborations.
Tapestry assures that data acquisition remains consistent with its regular e-commerce platforms, as all transactions are processed by its brands, according to Yang Lu, Chief Information and Data Officer at Tapestry.
Financial Performance
In recent financial results, Tapestry reported a 9% increase in fourth-quarter revenue, reaching $1.9 billion. The company turned around last year’s net loss of $517.1 million to a net income of $347.8 million. Coach’s revenues increased by 15%, totalling $1.6 billion, while Kate Spade experienced a 7% decline to $235 million over the same period.
