The popular streaming service Twitch experienced a significant disruption shortly after the release of an extended preview for Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix.
Twitch Faces Challenges During Grand Theft Auto 6 Preview
Viewers were treated to a live gameplay showcase of Grand Theft Auto 6, which was demonstrated on Netflix. Several top streamers, such as Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed, provided their reactions as the event unfolded live, allowing Twitch users to view the presentation on the platform without needing a Netflix account.
Status Update: Twitch Operational Hiccups
The Twitch Status website, responsible for tracking system operations, reported multiple major breakdowns affecting web access, chat features, and video services. Although Twitch appears to be largely restored, warnings about these significant issues remain visible. At present, there are approximately 180,000 viewers tuning in to Grand Theft Auto 6 streams, while Grand Theft Auto 5 streams attract about 80,000 viewers.
Ongoing Investigation into Twitch’s Service Interruption
Twitch has acknowledged reports of service disruptions and communicated that it is actively investigating the matter. The platform noted potential problems such as malfunctioning chat, login troubles, and impaired search functions. However, there is no confirmation that the outage directly resulted from the traffic spike coinciding with the Grand Theft Auto 6 event.
Enquiries have been made to Twitch’s PR representatives to determine if the heightened user activity during the game’s extended presentation caused the service interruption. No definitive response has been provided as of now.
