United Airlines has announced a status match initiative targeting members of American Airlines’ AAdvantage and Delta Air Lines’ SkyMiles programs. This move aims to entice these passengers to experience United’s high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi provided by Starlink, despite the backlash Delta has received for opting out of using the same service.
The offer, unveiled on Thursday, requires participants to meet specific spending thresholds within a 90-day timeframe to secure United’s loyalty statuses, which would then be honoured through January 2028. A dedicated webpage promoting the deal highlights the superior speed of United’s Wi-Fi with the tagline: “Don’t keep buffering: switch to United and get the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky.”
Spending Requirements
To qualify for the status match, participants must meet these expenditure criteria:
- Silver: $1,500
- Gold: $3,000
- Platinum: $4,500
- Premier 1K: $7,000
This strategic move illustrates United Airlines’ commitment to differentiating its on-board experience through the rollout of Starlink Wi-Fi, positioning it as a key selling point in the competitive aviation market.
