Walmart is making strides in restaurant delivery by incorporating Dunkin’ into its services, allowing customers to order Dunkin’ food and beverages directly through Walmart’s website or app. Announced on Thursday, this service will initially launch at the retailer’s 150 in-store Dunkin’ locations, eventually expanding to a significant number of their 10,000-plus locations nationwide.
Walmart’s Restaurant Delivery Push
The initiative is part of Walmart’s partnership with Inspire Brands, as the company seeks to establish itself as a significant player in the restaurant delivery market. Greg Cathey, Walmart’s senior vice president of e-commerce fulfillment transformation, stated that the strategy focuses on meeting customer needs wherever they are, enhancing convenience and value.
Customers eligible for this service will see Dunkin’ as a delivery option in the Walmart app’s “restaurants” section depending on their delivery location.
Expanding Partnerships and Service Integration
In June, Walmart extended its express delivery service to include Subway orders, marking it as the first restaurant to be integrated, facilitated by Subway’s status as the largest in-store restaurant partner within Walmart locations.
Highlighting the significance of its physical stores, Walmart reported a substantial increase in store-fulfilled deliveries during the second quarter. The company noted a 43% growth in this area, revealing that orders under three hours made up about 37% of these deliveries, showcasing an improved delivery speed and range.
Competitors and Market Dynamics
Walmart is not alone in this expanded service approach. Competitor Target initiated a similar move in 2022 by introducing Starbucks orders to its Drive Up service, quickly expanding its reach and functionality thereafter.
