Walmart is set to enhance its logistics operations in Ohio with a significant $300 million investment aimed at establishing a new fulfillment center in Turtlecreek Township, near Cincinnati. This facility will focus on handling large, non-sortable items such as televisions and furniture, according to information from the Regional Economic Development Initiative Cincinnati.
Expansion to Accelerate Delivery and Job Creation
The upcoming Turtlecreek site will generate over 300 jobs as part of Walmart’s strategy to improve its delivery capabilities by increasing the proximity of inventory to its customers. This aims to boost the efficiency of its next-day delivery service across the region. By adding this new site, Walmart aims to complement its existing operations at the nearby Monroe, Ohio facility, which currently employs more than 200 associates.
Strategic Adjustments in Distribution Network
This development is part of Walmart’s broader strategy to revamp its network of distribution facilities. This year has seen the retailer initiating several projects, including plans for a massive 1.5 million-square-foot fulfillment warehouse in New York, coupled with a $330 million investment to infuse robotics and automation into its regional distribution centre in Opelousas, Louisiana. Conversely, Walmart also plans to close facilities in Massachusetts and Illinois to refine its distribution strategy.
Industry Moves Towards Bulk Handling
Walmart is not alone in its quest to cater to the growing demand for big and bulky item deliveries. Amazon has recently made strides in this sector by introducing features tailored for oversized goods, including regional delivery and competitive pricing structures. At the Amazon Accelerate 2026 conference, the company underscored the rapid expansion of this market segment. Similarly, Costco has reported growth in its Costco Logistics division, specifically designed for handling furniture and large products.
Although the size and construction timeline for the new Turtlecreek Township facility have not been revealed, this development reinforces Walmart’s commitment to strengthening its supply chain infrastructure and enhancing its service offerings for oversized goods.
