The Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 saw an unprecedented demand, selling out within mere hours of preorder availability. Collectors and fans rushed to purchase the limited-edition console, leading to a surge of resale listings on eBay with prices reaching nearly twice the retail value.
Features and Pricing
Unveiled earlier this week by Nintendo, the Zelda-themed console features distinct Link-green Joy-Cons and a Triforce-inspired pattern. Alongside the console, a similarly themed Pro Controller and carry case will also be released. Retailers set the preorder price for the special edition console at approximately £435, slightly higher than the standard Switch 2, which is priced £15 less. Despite high demand, and the console being sold out almost instantly, Nintendo has yet to offer it for preorder through their own store or make any announcements regarding additional stock before the official release.
Resale Market
Following the rapid sellout, scalpers have capitalised on the demand by listing the anniversary edition on eBay for prices ranging from $700 to $985 (or roughly £520 to £730). Some of these listings include bundle offers with the forthcoming Ocarina of Time remake, even though Nintendo has not released any official bundles pairing the console with the game.
Release Dates
The official launch of the Zelda-themed Switch 2 is scheduled for 29th October, with the much-anticipated Ocarina of Time remake set to follow on 5th November.
