Xbox gains exclusive streaming rights for GTA 6

Xbox Lands Exclusive Streaming Rights for GTA 6

Microsoft has secured an exclusive deal to stream Grand Theft Auto VI via Xbox Cloud Gaming, marking a significant win for the tech giant. This initiative was disclosed during an all-hands meeting by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who hinted that Xbox is poised to achieve something unique compared to other platforms with the release of the highly anticipated game.

With this agreement, Xbox Cloud Gaming will be the only service to offer streaming of Grand Theft Auto VI when it launches. However, the duration of this exclusivity remains undisclosed. Notably, Rockstar Games has not yet announced a PC version of the game, presenting an opportunity for Xbox to reach PC gamers through its cloud service.

This development coincides with Microsoft introducing changes to its Xbox Cloud Gaming service. Beginning in November, when Grand Theft Auto VI is set for release, subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will have their streaming hours curtailed to 15 per month. Premium subscribers will be limited to 10 hours, while Game Pass Essential members will have only five hours.

Additionally, Microsoft is enhancing accessibility by introducing a pay-as-you-go option for Xbox Cloud Gaming, removing the necessity for a Game Pass subscription. Gamers can now purchase streaming hours separately, catering particularly to those who prefer playing on mobile devices or do not own an Xbox console.

In the same meeting, Sharma revealed details about Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox hardware, describing it as a “family of devices.” This follows last year’s strategic agreement between Microsoft and AMD to collaborate on a new suite of devices, including Microsoft’s future Xbox console.
