ABC’s New Livestream Show Taps Into Trending Topics
ABC News has officially launched Searched, a live online show that leverages trending topics from social media and internet searches to deliver news stories. Despite its recent announcement, Searched began broadcasting on ABC News Live in April, available through streaming services Disney Plus and Hulu.
The broadcaster highlights that Searched draws on real-time data from prominent search engines and social media sites to bring relevant news to its viewers. Episodes have recently showcased stories such as an Illinois Powerball jackpot winner, NBA player Russell Westbrook’s retirement, and Tropical Storm Lala. Past episodes can be accessed on the ABC News YouTube channel.
The introduction of Searched aligns with the broader trend of declining traditional TV viewership and the migration of news consumption to social media platforms. The programme, which runs for half an hour and airs with hosts Gio Benitez and Ashan Singh, is released each weekday exclusively on streaming.
Searched joins three other new programmes on ABC News Live. These include All Access with Linsey Davis, which features interviews with notable personalities, Burden of Proof, focusing on significant legal trials, and Doctor’s Note, dealing with health-related news and facts.
As the rise of live streaming continues, many platforms, including Disney Plus, are exploring options to expand their content. Disney Plus is considering introducing a free streaming tier, in line with strategies being evaluated by other major streaming services like Netflix, whose co-CEO Ted Sarandos mentioned ongoing consideration of such options.
